The Akept Centre for Learning and Teaching will facilitate in the transformation of teaching and learning methodologies used in higher education institutions with innovative state-of-the-art, research- based knowledge and the application of international best practices. Te Centre’s mission is to ofer participants a premier experience through programmes specifcally designed to develop and enhance the professional knowledge and skills essential to success and excellence in higher education teaching and learning. The Centre’s strategy is to facilitate and promote the development of insightful and innovative teaching and learning practices, leading to the discovery of new knowledge, and ultimately to the transformation of the students into intellectually and morally well-equipped human capital which is the cornerstone of the national development agenda.

The AKEPT Centre for Learning and Teaching Training Model for academia will strive to enable higher education leaders and academic staf to become excellent, innovative, professional, resilient, adaptive, and collaborative in developing cutting-edge, research-fuelled teaching and learning methodologies. It is the Centre’s conviction that the graduates would beneft greatly from their engagement in such a innovative, student-centred teaching and learning atmosphere, where higher-order thinking and learning is encouraged.

Te Centre’s strategy is to cordially work in partnerships with national stakeholders and internationally-renowned agencies to provide relevant and pragmatic training programmes to update and enhance the teaching and learning capabilities of higher education leaders, master trainers, and academic staf. Te Centre plans to organize a series of continuous professional development training, workshops, seminars, and forums for higher education leaders and master trainers, so that each institution will have the capacity to innovate their own teaching and learning practices based on international and local best practices in learning and teaching. The three main objectives of the AKEPT Centre for Learning and Teaching are to ensure that:
  • the academic staf of local higher education institutions are professionally competent to teach;
  • higher education leaders are competent in developing institutional teaching and learning strategies by linking research with practice; and
  • the academic staf of local higher education institutions are knowledgeable about and capable of stimulating and practicing teaching and learning innovation through both action and conceptual research .
